Ruthenium-Iridium Coated Titanium Plate Electrode for Leachate Treatment

Urban landfills are commonly used for household, industrial and commercial solid wastes. Waste may undergo a series of biological and physicochemical transformations after being landfilled, thereby producing extremely polluted wastewater called leachate.

Characterized by high chemical/biological oxygen demand and harmful dissolved substances, such leachate may pollute nearby ground and surface water as well as soil. Thus, landfill leachate must be managed and controlled in order to minimize risks to the environment and human health.

Several methods have been reported for the treatment and detoxification of landfill leachate. However, electro-fenton (EF) process has been emphasized as the appropriate key techniques. It utilizes in situ generation of hydroxyl radicals (OH-) derived from the reaction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and Fe2+ to oxidize hazardous contaminants, especially for persistent micropollutants.

Long Service Coating
Using state-of-the-art technology, the titanium base is taken to a high temperature ( ≥1200 °C) in a vacuum sintering furnace ensuring total adhesion of the coating. Thus, the coating consumption rate is extremely low and uniform, measured in milligrams per ampere-year.
