AC Mitigation Ribbon (Gypsum Mix Backfill)

Pipeline corrosion, caused by induced AC current, is attributed to high voltage AC power lines in close proximity to a pipeline system. The corrosion can be extremely aggressive, far exceeding the normal corrosion rate caused by corrosive soils. One of the most popular mitigation solutions is a linear grounding system that is installed in parallel to the pipeline.

Compared with bare copper and zinc ribbon, this long-line “cable” is a superior grounding material that provides an effective electrical path to remove or discharge AC current from the pipeline to the ground. It is comprised of a bare stranded copper conductor encased in low resistance backfill, and then wrapped in a synthetic sock

Description

Quality Copper Conductor

We use the high quality copper substrate to ensure excellent electrical conductivity.

Gypsum Mix Grounding Backfill

To achieve the superior performance and low earth contact resistance, our backfill is a compound of naturally occurring, environmentally friendly material, based upon a blend of Hydrated Gypsum, Bentonite, and mineral natron. The grounding is enhanced with the Jennings Anodes’ proprietary hydrous phyllosilicate mineral boosting agent.

Braid Fabric Jacket

The fabric housing is braided using a high tensile strength heavy duty compact braid assuring product integrity.

Reel Packing for Easy Transportation

The sock diameter is approximately 1.5 inches and is installed directly, from the factory provided reel, into the trench. Wooden or steel reels are supplied as required.

APPLICATIONS

This AC mitigation ribbon can be installed in several ways, including horizontal directional drilling, cable plow and trenching. It is a tough product that can be buried directly in all kind of soil, especially well suited the environment where the resistivity is high or various, and where there are risks for interference with secondary structures.

Our AC mitigation ribbon is commonly applied to pipeline grounding systems or structure that are subject to AC interference.

  • Prevent voltage spikes during fault conditions
  • Reduce AC-induced corrosion
  • Maintain AC step and touch potentials to protect personnel from shock hazards
